Few things have fascinated people more than the struggle to fly. In the early days aircraft reminded most of large birds but only a few years later aeroplanes played an important role in life, both for civilian and military purposes. The most interesting leap was probably the introduction of the jet engine which pressed both aircraft and pilots to the brink of the possible for many years.
